SOMETHING ABOUT

THE WARDLAW BROTHERS

Often being described as gospel music's answer to Boyz II Men, the Wardlaw Brothers are five siblings who use the natural blend of their voices to create a sound that mixes smooth soul and vocal jazz with classic gospel while filled with the power of the Lord's message. Born and raised in Lyons, Georgia, the Wardlaw Brothers are the sons of Rev. Carl Wardlaw Jr., who spent more than 15 years as the pastor at Vidalia, Georgia's First African Baptist Church. While the pastor himself was no singer, he was a fan of classic gospel groups such as the The Jackson Southernaires, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Williams Brothers, and The Winans, and he and his wife taught their children the valuable role of music in worship. After a period of music ministry at a church in the state of Washington, the family returned to Georgia. Soon after, Rev. Wardlaw would receive the call and become a pastor and The Wardlaw Brothers would continue in church music ministry. The group’s sound, inspired by Boyz II Men and the jazz-influenced gospel vocal group Take 6, began to take shape, with four of the brothers -- Carl Anthony "Tony" Wardlaw, Martin Luther "Lute" Wardlaw, Carl "Carlo" Wardlaw III, and Rodney Allen "Baby Boy" Wardlaw -- trading off on lead vocals and harmonies, with Cornelius "Jamie" Wardlaw providing the supportive bass vocals.

Often being described as gospel music's answer to Boyz II Men, the Wardlaw Brothers are five siblings who use the natural blend of their voices to create a sound that mixes smooth soul and vocal jazz with classic gospel while filled with the power of the Lord's message. The Wardlaw Brothers
  • Carl Wardlaw  III

Carl Wardlaw III is a 35 year old national gospel artist in the gospel sensation quintet, TWB5 (The Wardlaw Brothers). Carl is very gifted in many respects vocally. Although he brings a wide range of style to the group by  delving in hip-hop flavors, he also introduces and embodies a 2nd tenor to bass range, lends a sweet falsetto in their harmonies and renders an explosive lead. He has been singing praises to the glory of God since he was three years of age.  He has a very deep appreciation for music of all genres and has influences from artists like: Take 6, The Winans, Kirk Franklin, Canton Spirituals, The Williams Brothers, Boys 2 Men, Casting Crowns, Rascal Flatts, Joe, Brian McKnight and many others. Carl's favorite scripture states, "God promises never to leave nor forsake us". Carl knows and has witnessed this firsthand, as he watched God raise him from a near death experience. Carl states, I know that life is but a vapor, and since God's love is deep enough to extend to  me His grace and fresh mercies on  a daily basis, I just 'feel' like I owe Him my praise and my life because they're both one in the same! Carl is both playwright and screenplay writer. He brings the industry to a new age by infusing his faith-based writings with many genres. Carl says, “Naturally, I like to be in line with certain standards, but when I write, I don’t necessarily look for industry standards; I write based off of consultation with God and simply impressions on me and the world around me.”

Carl takes pride in being a family man; he has been married for 13 years to his wife, Sarah Lynn, and they have four daughters--two of which are twins: Makaila,  Moriah, Mischa` and Malana.

Carl loves God, laughing, writing, cooking and spending time with his entire family.

  • Jamie Wardlaw

Jamie Wardlaw Sr.; is the melodious bass man that defines TWB’s distinctive sound.  Jamie loves to travel and minister the gospel of Jesus with his brothers and is humbled by God’s calling on their lives.  Jamie is an entrepreneur at heart and is currently the CEO of a trucking company.  Jamie has an Associate and Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and is also a Certified Peer Specialist.  In his spare time Jamie enjoys keeping up with current events and spending time with his wife Crystal, and their three children; Naomi, Jamie III, and Jamie Crystian.  Jamie loves life and tries to live everyday to the fullest.  He believes that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.  Jamie states that “there is nothing too big for God, and He is worthy to be praised”!

  • Martin Luther Wardlaw

Martin Luther Wardlaw could easily be described as a local musician who performs the duties of Minister of Music for the First African Missionary Baptist Church in Vidalia, Georgia, of which he is a member and his father is pastor. While this would be true, it would not fully describe the musical works and accomplishments, education and experiences of Wardlaw.  “Lute,” as he is affectionately called, may have started out as a local musician but has since developed into a singer, songwriter, composer, producer and engineer.

Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, Luther, realizing his love for music at a very early age, began playing the trombone in the 5th grade, and continued to explore and play various musical instruments throughout high school to college. He went on to pursue a degree in music from Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia, where, along with his brothers, they completed their first album entitled Putting My Life in Your Hands.  The music on the album was primarily written by Luther, and soon The Wardlaw Brothers had multiple labels offering them recording contracts. Pretty soon The Wardlaw Brothers became a household name, winning local and national awards for their work, taking their rightful place as national Gospel Recording Artists.

After graduating college in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, Luther was introduced to a whole new world of music. It was at that time that Wardlaw was afforded the opportunity to work with many other producers, songwriters and engineers including: Roger Ryan, Grammy Award Winning Manuel Seal, two-time Grammy Award winning Alvin Speights, Fred Hammond, and Cedric Thompson to name a few.

Today, Luther Wardlaw continues to work in many areas of music and has completed many works nationally and internationally. His latest work entitled “Angel’s Wings” is a theme song he wrote for a Christian based film released in April of 2014 called On Angel’s Wings. He has written and produced several theme songs for United Way including “What Matters”. “Together We Can” and “Imagine If”. Recently, Wardlaw with the help of his friends and fellow producers Cedric Thompson (Grammy Award winner – North Carolina), Antonia Neal (Dove Award Winner – Nashville, Tennessee) and upcoming hit producer Andre Forbes (Tallahassee, FL), wrote and produced the album for The Wardlaw Brothers entitled God’s Been There, released February 2013. He also wrote and produced a work entitled “Bringing The Jobs Back Home” which was recorded and used for a commercial by the State of Georgia. In January 2012, Wardlaw wrote and produced a song entitled “Welcome Home Soldiers” which is a dedication to our troops, which has been adopted by many Army and Naval bases around the world as a theme song for welcoming their soldiers back home. In 2011, Wardlaw wrote a song in honor of Rev. Jesse Jackson titled “Keep Hope Alive,” which was performed for Rev. Jackson in Atlanta, Georgia for his birthday. In 2010, he wrote the theme song “Be in the Number” that was endorsed by the government for the 2010 Census. One of the most noted achievements of Martin Luther Wardlaw is a song he produced and co-wrote entitled “My Feet Off The Ground” that was recorded and performed by the Oscar and Grammy Award winning Hip Hop Duo, Three 6 Mafia, and then featured in the latest paramount picture remake Footloose.

Martin Luther Wardlaw’s musical accomplishments are just beginning. He continues to listen to and be inspired by the genius of Quincy Jones, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Warryn Campbell, Kirk Franklin, and many more, in an effort to enhance his talent and skills, growing stronger as a songwriter, composer, producer and engineer. With his musical utensils, a pen and paper, and God Almighty guiding his stride, the sky is the limit for Martin Luther Wardlaw.
